Thanks for Looking Out for Me: Yeah Right

One of the things that annoys me more than anything are the commercials by credit card companies where they tell you how closely they monitor your account for fraud — for your protection.  Worse, American Express actually deactivates my card several times a year to “protect me”.  That’s bullsh*t.  Consumer protection laws already guarantee that we have a very limited liability for fraud with credit cards.  Embarrassing me at dinner by forcing the waiter to return to my table for an alternate payment method does not help me or my business.  It helps American Express (or MasterCard or Visa) avoid having to eat a loss if it is fraud. They cannot even ask consumers to pay for the charges while they are investigated. As a very potty-mouthed friend of mine always says, “thanks for f*cking me in the ass without the courtesy of a reach around, American Express!”
